Letter: ‘Burg shows leadership’
To the editor:
On November 5th we will be voting for Mary Burg for Mayor. Mary has served our community competently and ethically through her two and a half terms on our City Council. We believe we need her to continue in the role of Mayor. She has a proven record of sound financial management; consistently supports public safety; and she values our park system. Mary has shown leadership through our difficult financial time by looking at the big picture so that our community will have a long term financial success.
Through Mary’s sound fiscal leadership New Brighton has improved its bond rating (in 2009) we are realizing saving of tens of thousands of dollars in interest and allowed us to lower our debt. While we see neighboring communities struggling with double digit tax increases New Brighton has a strategy of careful reinvestment and use of our resources to keep service levels high and costs low. Mary stands up for us in a long term approach of managing city policy. Mary understands the need for reinvestment in our community so that we will continue to have the quality of life our community has come to expect.
In the current environment of divisive partisanship and of distrust for government officials Mary has always represented the community with integrity and has not let us down. Please join us in electing Mary Burg for Mayor on November 5th.
