Lauderdale

All was quiet in the city of Lauderdale last week with no hair-raising reports, other than the 24-year-old guy with the hypodermic needles arrested on Eustis Street Oct. 10, of stealing, excessive drinking, fighting or off-road driving that would interest our readers.

Little Canada

Senior assault
The 73-year-old wife who needed help getting dressed asked her husband for assistance Oct. 18 after a day-long argument and a fair amount of drinking by the 74-year-old man. He responded by hitting her on top of the head three times, and grabbing her by the throat before heading for the bar. The victim called 911, showed red marks on her throat to deputies and expressed fear of her husband. The suspect was found at the bar and jailed on a felony “domestic assault by strangulation” charge.

Theft
Magazines - and not the type those questionable folks try to sell you at your front door - were reported stolen Oct. 13 or 14 after a break-in at a locker at a public storage facility in the first block of Country Road D. No, these were magazines for AR-15 and AR-30 weapons, commonly described as assault rifles. Also stolen were 2000 rounds for a .223 cal. rifle. The total loss was estimated at $2,600.

There go some more Hondas
A ‘96 Honda Accord went missing from an apartment building parking lot in the 400 block of Labore Road the night of Oct. 17. A ‘98 Honda Civic disappeared from the same lot the next evening. “Shaved” keys are suspected in both thefts.
