Letter: Supports “yes” vote for levy

To the editor:

At our annual fall picnic, it was nice to meet three new families who recently moved into the neighborhood and filled homes left by empty nesters.  The young parents said the high quality of the Mounds View Public Schools was certainly a factor in their home search and selection.

On Nov. 5, our community will vote on renewing an operating levy for the school district. This levy renewal will not increase property taxes above current levels. It renews an operating levy that our community originally voted YES to support in 2006. If district residents do not vote to renew it, the original levy will expire in 2014. The district will lose $11.5 million in annual funding that helps pay for basics — such as classroom teachers and a comprehensive curriculum.

Both new and long time residents expect Mounds View Public Schools to provide a high quality education to our kids. The District has delivered on its promise and met our expectations. It’s our turn to show the District that they can count on our support.

I hope you will join me in voting YES on Nov. 5. A YES vote will allow our district to continue to responsibly invest in our students and schools, and keep the Mounds View Public School District in high regard.
