Richard Engstrom, Maplewood, and his son Rob, Shell Lake, both have built wood canoes based on plans from the 1969 magazine Popular Science. Richard, after raising seven children with his wife Mary Lou, finally got around to building the canoe. Both displayed their handiwork at the White Bear Lake Classic and Vintage Boat Show June 22. Working with wood since he was a little kid and an electrician by trade, Richard took about a year to build the boat. The craftsmanship of the wood canoe up close.
