Hilton closed at 36
Heads up, motorists: both directions of Hilton Trail at Highway 36 in Pine Springs will be closed for the next two months.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed the section of the roadway on Monday, July 15, so crews can begin constructing a new interchange.
The posted detour directs drivers to use Highway 36 to Lake Elmo Avenue to County Road 12/75th Street North, then back to Hilton Trail.
Partial access at the roadway should be restored by mid-September. The $13.8 million reconstruction project is expected to be completed this fall.
The new grade-separated interchange is part of a larger vision to redesign the four-lane highway in order to eliminate traffic signals. MnDOT says the Highway 36/Hilton Trail project will improve safety and traffic flow on Highway 36, Hilton Trail, Highlands Trail and Demontreville Trail and reduce the amount of traffic cutting through residential areas.
