District 622 to welcome new principals

Several new principals will be joining the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District administrative team next fall.

The District 622 school board approved the hiring of five new principals at its recent meetings. Some of them are already familiar faces in District 622, and others will be coming from schools outside the district.

At Skyview Elementary School in Oakdale, Travis Barringer has been hired to replace current principal Carol Erickson, who will be retiring this year after serving as principal of Skyview Elementary since it opened in 1996.

Barringer currently serves as the principal at River Crest Elementary in Hudson, Wis.

Skyview Middle School will also have a new principal, but he’s not new to District 622. Joe Slavin, who currently serves as supervisor of educational programs at the District 622 Education Center, will replace current Skyview Middle School principal Christina Hester. Earlier this year, Hester was hired as the new principal of Robbinsdale Cooper High School.

Slavin’s current job as supervisor of educational programming will be filled by current Oakdale Elementary School principal Peter Mau. Tracy Buhl, an assistant principal intern at the Linwood Campus of Linwood Monroe Arts Plus in St. Paul, has been hired as the new Oakdale Elementary School principal.

Skyview Middle School will also welcome another familiar face come fall. Current Maplewood Middle School principal Marnie Galvin has decided to step into an assistant principal role at Skyview Middle. She will be replaced by Kevin Wolff, who is currently the assistant principal at Highland Park High School in St. Paul.

Judy Jemtrud, who has served as principal at Weaver Elementary School in Maplewood since 2002, earlier this year announced she would be retiring after a total of 16 years with the district. She will be replaced by Pangjua Xiong, who is currently a supervisor for the English Language Learner Department at St. Paul Public Schools.
