Market changes hands

Richard’s Market, Maplewood’s beloved 41-year-old neighborhood convenience store, is changing ownership this month. The new owner, Shaine Stokke, owns two other meat shops in the Duluth area. Diana Horvath, the market’s previous owner, said it’s “a miracle” that Stokke’s is such a “great fit” for the business. “I didn’t want to sell it to just anybody,” Horvath said. “(The store) is almost like one of my kids!” Richard’s Market featuring Stokke’s Meat will boast an expanded variety of products, especially at the meat counter, where both Richard’s and Stokke’s meats will be available for sale. “Anyone who was familiar with the store before will notice a change right away,” Horvath said. “But we’re trying very hard to keep everything the way it was.”
