Irondale fifth at state Nordic meet

In its first state appearance since 1989, the Irondale High School boys Nordic ski racing team finished fifth last Thursday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

The Knights amassed 341 points and finished one point out of fourth place, which went to St. Cloud Tech. Eden Prairie won the state team championship with 378 points.

Individually, senior Tyler Gilbert led Irondale with his fifth-place finish in the pursuit standings. The Knights' state contingent also included senior Bjorn Adelsman (16th), senior Nate Rhode (61st), freshman Joey Jankowski (65th), senior Patrick Hennessey (90th), senior Lucas Forster (111th) and junior Joe Kelner (113th).

In the girls' state competition, juniors Mattie Watts and Sarah Tokos participated. Watts finished fifth and Tokos ended up in 72nd.
