Letter: Minnesota’s transportation problem

Minnesota has a transportation problem. The cost of maintaining the current system is increasing faster than available funding, making it difficult for Minnesotans to get to their destination. That’s why I recently participated in the Transportation Day at the Capitol, to show legislators there’s broad support for improving Minnesota’s transportation infrastructure through a more comprehensive and sustainable funding package.

Letter: Don’t use taxpayer money for noise studies

I can sympathize with folks who lose sleep to outside noises; I am in my sixties and a good night’s rest is a requirement. However, I do not have sympathy with folks who buy homes by ports (my hometown is Duluth), airports, or trains and then complain about the noise.

Hope Church of Oakdale hosting April 5 benefit
Drew Macke is a remarkable kid.
That's what the people who know him say, and it's not hard to see why.
Drew, a 14 year-old boy from Woodbury, was born with a rare condition called VATER association. VATER association is a "grouping of different anomalies," according to Dr. Mary Wild Crea, a pediatrician from Fairview Clinic in Rosemount. She has been caring for Drew since he was about 3 months old.

Third straight title eludes Brausen, Gophers

Bethany Brausen spent the final weekend of her college hockey career in New England chasing a national championship. Brausen and her University of Minnesota teammates fell short of a third consecutive Division I women’s hockey title but she still leaves the Golden Gophers with plenty of achievements.

Man shoots, kills son with shotgun in Maplewood home

Police are investigating a case in which an 84-year-old man apparently shot and killed his 36-year-old son on Monday at the Maplewood home where they both lived. The father then barricaded himself in a bedroom as police tried to communicate with him for two hours.

Fire in Roseville leaves one dead

One person is dead after a weekend fire in Roseville.
According to a news release from the city, on Saturday, March 22 just before 6 p.m., the Roseville Fire Department, with assistance from the Lake Johanna Fire Department, was dispatched to the Rose Mall Apartments located in the 2200 block of Pascal Street. There were reports of alarms sounding and smoke coming from the third floor of the apartment building.

Masked gunmen rob Subway restaurant in St. Anthony

St. Anthony Village Police are on the hunt for three suspects who robbed a Subway restaurant in the St. Anthony Village Shopping Center at gunpoint Thursday, March 20 just before 8:30 a.m.
