Boys Hockey: Hill-Murray looking to take another huge step

Perennial boys hockey power Hill-Murray High School began the 2013-2014 season with one major goal in mind. Well, maybe there is more than one thing on the team’s mind.
If I were a mind reader, I would say the Pioneers want to make their 27th bid to the state boys hockey tournament. And once there, I would say the one goal they may have in mind would be to win one more game than they have won the last two years they were in the tournament.

Why proportionality is important

Much has been written and discussed in the media about frivolous lawsuits.  Everyone seems to think of the hot McDonald’s coffee lawsuit as being “frivolous,” when, in fact, the injured customer sustained serious burns to her body as a result. It seems a frivolity is the lawsuit of someone other than yourself.
The Minnesota Rules of Court were recently amended to include the following requirement as to “proportionality:”

Giving thanks

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, giving thanks and helping those in need. With Thanksgiving here, families across the nation will be celebrating their own traditions in their own way. Between the food and the festivities, no one family does it quite the same, but I encourage everyone to add one thing to their day – take time to say thanks.

Boys Basketball: Pioneers looking at new starting lineup to gain success

The Hill-Murray boys basketball team is approaching the upcoming season with many question marks.
Pioneers head coach Dick Ghizoni said, “We lost five starters to graduation. We are returning many players with little varsity experience.”
Ghizoni continued, “We have some good inside and good outside shooters. We will have a good mix of senior class and junior class players.”

Girls hockey: Achiever Academy downs Polars

Achiever Academy, a small school in Vadnais Heights devoted to hockey, made a trip to Polar Arena Nov. 14, and the Aces gave a skating lesson to the North High Polars.
Except for North goalie Marit Larson, who was just short of perfect, in goal, the Polars found getting into the Aces’ zone a difficult chore.
Larson turned aside 42 of the 44 missiles ticketed for the 24 square feet behind her. She held the opposition scoreless until the third period. Through the first 34 minutes of action, Larson had stopped 27 shots on goal.

Boys Hockey: Tartan facing hockey season with many questions

When you attend a Tartan High School boys hockey game this season, make sure you pick up a roster as you enter the arena.
The old saying, “You can’t tell the players without a program” may well hold true. Last season the Titans had no less than 14 seniors. Those players have since graduated and moved on to other pursuits, and their co-head coach Jim McElmury has retired.
When talking about his expectations for the 2013-2014 hockey season, Tartan co-head coach Steve Romanchuk succinctly stated, “We lack experience.”
