New on the beat ...

I suppose my involvement in the field of journalism could be chalked up to a series of lucky coincidences. My first brush with journalism was in fifth grade at Valentine Hills Elementary, when I was assigned to be a newspaper editor in a simulated Old West town.

Cable Commission transmits clear signal to Comcast

Ramsey and Washington County Comcast customers who subscribe to more than just basic cable channels may have noticed an increase in their cable bills recently, as the company has added some additional fees to several of its services.
At a Ramsey/Washington Counties Suburban Cable Commission meeting March 14, commissioners from 12 suburbs met to discuss the validity of the new charges.

“Trees: the good, the bad and the ugly” presentation in Shoreview this week

With spring’s arrival many area green thumbs are anxious to get out and start prepping gardens for the much-awaited growing season. Metro lawns are sill blanketed in snow and it seems as though spring will arrive a bit later than it has in recent years (2010 being an exception).

Dogs poisoned with rodenticide in St. Anthony

Barbara Subak returned home from an outing on Saturday, Feb 16 to find her two loving canine companions, Billy and Spirit in serious trouble.  Both dogs had severe diarrhea and she knew instantly something was wrong when she saw Billy vomiting large amounts of blood.
The 8-year-old, mixed-breed rescue dog from Oklahoma died a short time later in her owner’s home.

St. Anthony falls in section semifinals

The St. Anthony Village High School boys basketball team pulled off an upset in the first round of the section playoffs but couldn’t pull another rabbit out of the hat last week.

Owasso street realignment project approved by Shoreview council

At a March 4 meeting Shoreview council members unanimously approved plans and specifications for the realignment and reconstruction of an 800-foot section of Owasso Street near the County Road E and Victoria Street intersection.
The estimated $3 million project will involve moving part of Owasso Street to the north and aligning it with the western leg of County Road E.

Rams bring home tourney hardware

A first-round loss was a tough way to start the weekend but the Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville CI division adapted floor hockey team bounced back to make the best of it. The Rams rallied following the loss and were able to take home a trophy.
