Boys basketball: Pioneers top Polars on North home court

The Hill-Murray Pioneers took their boys' basketball forces to the Hal Norgard Gymnasium Feb. 15 to do battle with the North Polars in a Classic Suburban Conference tussle. 

In second-half play the Pioneers pulled away from the Polars and gained a  64-50 victory.

Knights look to slay more giants

In winning the Section 5AA championship, the Irondale High School girls hockey team knocked off two ranked opponents. The Knights need to continue with that David and Goliath mindset when they head into the state tournament this week.

In its first state appearance since 1989, the Irondale High School boys Nordic ski racing team finished fifth last Thursday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

Boys hockey playoffs kick off Saturday

At one point this season, the Mounds View High School boys hockey team appeared poised to get the No. 2 seed in the Section 4AA playoffs. A second-half swoon changed that, however, and the Mustangs ended up as the No. 5 seed.

Three former Bulletin-area high school students were recently honored for their academic and athletic prowess in college. All three earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference fall semester academic all-conference awards.

Mustangs take fifth at state Alpine meet

Mounds View High School's girls Alpine ski team participated in its second consecutive state meet last week and came away with a fifth-place finish. The Mustangs scored 122 points, leaving them 50 back of state champion Minnetonka and 2.5 behind fourth-place Mankato West.

Boys' hockey: Titans calm Zephyrs

It was anything but Valentine's Day on the ice as the Tartan Titans hosted the Mahtomedi Zephyrs in a Classic Suburban Conference boys' hockey game Feb. 14.

Tartan scored on their first three shots on goal, missed one, and then got the fifth.

Girls' hockey: Hill-Murray top Raiders to gain second state tournament

There was no love lost Feb. 15 at Aldrich Arena as two of the top girls hockey teams in the state staged an epic battle.
