Halbrehder nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the Year


Linda Baumeister/Review State Teacher of the Year nominee Barb Halbrehder, teaching physical education at Tartan, has been with District 622 for decades, starting with her own years as a student at Tartan.

Linda Baumeister/Review Tartan physical education teacher Barb Halbrehder and her “great group of students,” the second-hour Winter Team Sports elective class, were outdoors for some February snow football.

When former Tartan Activities Director Lee Alger heard the news that a Tartan coach and physical education teacher had been nominated as a possible candidate for Minnesota Teacher of the Year, his response was, “Wow! That’s great! That’s not at all bad for a phy ed teacher. It’s well deserved.”

Postal Credit Union unveils new student branch at Tartan High School


Linda Baumeister/Review Tartan junior Austin Raebel, junior Kelsie Ferstl, junior Marc Buchmayer and senior Geneva Eilertson took part in the Postal Credit Union (PCU) student branch official opening at Tartan High School Feb. 20.

Linda Baumeister/Review The Tartan-run Postal Credit Union (PCU)branch is staffed by Geneva Eilertson, Austin Raebel and Marc Buchmayer. These Tartan DECA students have been through nine months of training at other PCU branches and will promote savings and financial literacy.

Tartan High School in Oakdale is taking a “hands-on” approach to teaching financial literacy to its students.

Feb. 20 marked the grand opening of the new Postal Credit Union Student Branch, located in the Tartan DECA school store.

Another chapter was added on Tuesday to the story of the athletic rivalry between Roseville Area High School and White Bear Lake Area High School. This section started out well for the Raiders but finished with a tough ending.

Volunteers needed to help local military families

Proceeds from the monthly event help support Beyond the Yellow Ribbon sponsored programs to help local military families.

The Suburban Ramsey County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (BTYR) Committee is in need of volunteers to help provide support to military families living in the northeast metro.
