I am watching the growing furor over the shortcomings in the Veterans Administration system and the fallout from Walter Reed Army Hospital with growing alarm. I am concerned that we are going to fix the crisis and forget the problem.
Not too many years ago we left our house doors unlocked until bedtime. The window blinds were commonly left open, even in the inner city, until lights were turned off for the night. During the summer we often worked in the back yard with the house doors and the garage doors wide open.
